WOMB ESCAPE IV

FRI & SAT NOV 19, 20 at 7pm & 8:30pm 16 teams of improvisers (4 each round) battle it out in an XTREME THEATRESPORTS match! The top 4 comeback Sunday at 7pm to compete in the Cage Match finals for Womb Escape Champion!

The significance of the name “Womb Escape,” which began in 2007, is that each team originally spawned from our Unexpected Productions improv school then became successful groups on their own without the warmth and comfort of our "womb-like" theater!

 FRI Nov 19 7pm & 8:30pm – ROUND 1
SAT Nov 20 7pm & 8:30pm - ROUND 2

XTREME THEATRESPORTS

The teams should be at the Market Theater by 7:30pm. Show starts at 8:30pm

 How it works:

Each team should consist of not more than 5 and not less than 2.

All teams will place themselves on stage left (lobby side).

The MC will do his/her thing, explaining to the audience about the scoring, etc. Teams will be introduced newest to oldest and cross to stage right (bar side).

The MC will ask the "team captain" from each team to take the front of the stage for the TOSS-UP CHALLENGE. The TOSS-UP WILL HELP DETERMINE THE ORDER of the teams.

The challenge begins…

For the first round, the MC will issue a challenge. Each team in round one will have to abide by the challenge in some way. It'll be fairly open. Example, the MC may challenge you to a scene involving a current event, then every scene in round one would need to incorporate a current event. If it's a "cow" challenge then every scene would need to be influence or inspired by "cow" whether it's a literal scene, metaphorical scene, or a game... it's up to you.

After each scene the AUDIENCE WILL SCORE in terms of applause.  The MC will ask a question like “does this scene deserve a 2?” 3, 4 and so on up to 5. Whichever number gets the loudest applause is the score given for that scene. Final round of the show is scored 1-10.

WHEN YOUR SCENE IS OVER, EXIT STAGE LEFT -(You're welcome to sit in the front row and watch, or hang out in the bar, but make sure you're ready in the stage right wings while the team you're following is up.)

In Rounds 2 and up, the challenges are open. Each team can do what they want as long as it doesn't go over 5 minutes. AT 5 MINUTES THE LIGHTS WILL GO OFF and the music will come on. The scenes can be as short as you want. Don't worry, there'll be a RED WARNING LIGHT AT 4 MINUTES.

At the end of this show, you may do a group scene while the score is being tallied up.

THE TOP 4 TEAMS ARE INVITED BACK SUNDAY NOV 21, 7PM, FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP CAGE MATCH.

CAGE MATCH CHAMPIONSHIPS

6:30PM CALL

How it works:

There is NO LIMIT as to how many people you have on your team
The 1st place team from XTS each night will move on to the championships.
EACH TEAM HAS 18 MINUTES to do whatever they want. The only rule is it has to be improvised.
At 18 minutes the lights will come down. You'll get a 5 minute and 1 minute warning of some kind. (Usually a countdown clock is present.)
Then, after the 4th team goes, there may be a short group scene to let the AUDIENCE DECIDE WHICH TEAM THEY WANT TO VOTE FOR. Usually they mark it down on a piece of paper to be tallied at the end, but for this show, it may happen by other means.

THE WINNING TEAM WILL RECEIVE AN XTREME IMPROV TROPHY!!
